Wilma Jean (nee. Hatton) 77, of Southgate passed away February 7, 2012. Beloved
wife of 55 years of Ernie Pretot. Loving mother of Michael Pretot (Nancy) and
Michelle Wisbith (Anthony). Dear grandmother of Nick, Kevin, Samantha, Madison,
Alex, and Xavier. Sister of Darrel Hatton (Karen). Wilma is also the aunt to
numerous nieces and nephews. Wilma was a teacher, writer, and business owner.
She founded the library at Southgate Public Elementary School so her children
and subsequent generations would be able to read and fall in love with books.
Wilma was proud to have gone to college while working and raising a family. She
completed her teaching degree in 4 years and graduated with a 4.0 gpa. Wilma
started a day care in Newport, Growing & Learning, she was also a former
owner of Ann’s Iceballs. She was a wedding planner, Sunday school teacher,
church youth leader, and PTA president. She was named an Honorary Member of Sons
of Union Veterans of the Civil War for her research on and presentation of the
life of General Hodge. Wilma was a true friend and had a very generous spirit,
always willing to help anyone in need of assistance or support. Visitation will
be held Friday, February 10 from 5-8pm at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport.
Service will be held Saturday, February 11 at 9:30am at the First Church of
Nazarene in Newport. Burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Southgate. In
lieu of flowers, please make donations to your favorite reading program or
library.
