Shirley Walters was born on January 4, 1927. With her family surrounding her, she peacefully and willingly passed on to Heaven on May 1, 2019.
Shirley was married to Jesse James Walters for fifty years (He died in 1999).
They had 3 children:
1) Jeff (and Kathy) Walters
2) Steve Walters
3) Robin (and John) Anderson
6 Grandchildren:
1) Tamara (and Greg) Schweitzer
2) Nicholas (and Stacy) Grimm
3) Natasha (and Roger) Ertel
4) Christopher (and Erica) Walters
5) Jeffery Walters
6) Jonathon Walters
Four Great Grandchildren:
1) Hollan Schweitzer
2) Catcher Grimm
3) Lorenza Schweitzer
4) Colette Grimm
Shirley retired from Internal Revenue Service (where she was one of four employees chosen, many decades ago, to learn how to use a “New fangled piece of equipment called a computer)!
She also learned how to text, at age 85.
Shirley loved being in the Prayer Group at St. John’s United Church of Christ, where she also served, faithfully, through the years.
Shirley loved playing cards, especially 500, with her family. She was happy when she beat Robin and John on her last night at home.
Shirley and Jesse volunteered for many organizations. They served meals at The Hosea House. She also loved volunteering at The Cincinnati Art Museum. She was very active in her children’s PTA and school functions. She “handmade” her daughter’s Barbie clothes, which her two Great Granddaughters still play with, often.
Shirley’s life was dedicated to her family, whom she loved and lived for.
She was the greatest Mom, Wife, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt, Sister and Friend to anyone who was fortunate enough to know her.
Her beautiful spirit, her love of dancing, her love of music (especially Phantom of the Opera), her amazing openness to learn new things and to change her opinions of old ideas, her loving heart, her compassionate giving, her unconditional love, her unbelievable smile and her blue eyes will all be missed.
Shirley led a wonderful life and will leave a loving memory for all, of those, who knew and loved her.
There will be a Visitation, to honor the 92 years of her life, at 10:00am on May 7, 2019 at St. John’s United Church of Christ, in Newport, Kentucky.
A brief service will follow at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, donations, in her name, can be made to
NORTHERN KENTUCKY UNIVERSITY VETERANS RESOURCE CENTER.
