Scott Thomas Kopczynski, beloved husband, father, son, brother, friend, peacefully passed away on January 18, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. After battling lung cancer for over two years, Scott is now celebrating the wonders of eternal life in the presence of his Redeemer, Jesus Christ. Scott was devoted to the many relationships of his life, especially to his bride of 29 years, Sandi. Scott is additionally survived by his two sons Derek and Adam (Rebekah), his mother, Sally (Jim) VanOs, his sister, Jill (Rob) DeGroot, his brother, Mark (Angie) Kopczynski, and several nephews and nieces. Scott is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Kopczynski.
Scott was born on April 8, 1963, to Thomas Kopczynski and Sally Kopczynski VanOs in Jenison, Michigan. Following his undergraduate studies, Scott relocated to the Cincinnati area to fill a co-op position with General Electric. He labored in many roles over the next 35 years, his favorite role was working with the Honda Jet Engine Program. In addition to his prolific occupational history, Scott also earned his MBA through the Executive Program at Xavier University, while also becoming a certified Six Sigma Blackbelt through GE.
As a natural athlete, Scott enjoyed participating in many sports, excelling in whichever one he adopted. While in high school, the two upon which he focused were baseball and golf. He also loved all racquet-related sports, and later in life he became competitive in pickleball. That new-found passion and activity was interrupted and halted by the cancer diagnosis. As was to be expected, for fifty years Scott remained an avid fan of his alma mater Michigan State Spartans.
Scott did excel in almost everything he tried, not allowing ignorance at any level to prevail. He would self-instruct, practice, succeed, and then apply his new-found knowledge and prowess to assist others. It was never just about personal achievement, but also about richly and effectively sharing that special enjoyment.
Scott met Sandi in Mount Adams in 1992 and the two then married three years later in Negril, Jamacia. In the immediate years following their wedding, Derek and Adam were born. Together, and with the common challenges, they raised their boys, first in Taylor Mill and then Cold Spring. Scott was an attentive and involved dad, sharing his love for the outdoors, boating, and family excursions to wherever. Scott was an active member at Movement Church of Newport, Kentucky, selflessly serving his church in various roles for many years.
