On Tuesday, June 27, 2023, Michael Dean Wylie, age 69, of Cincinnati, OH, passed away peacefully at home with his beloved wife Amy (Arbino) at his side. Amy and Mike were married in 2005 and resided in Clermont County for most of their life together.
Mike was predeceased by his father Paul Wylie, who died in September of 2009 and mother Esby Wylie (Dobbins) who died in September of 2019.
He is also survived by two children with his first wife and friend Kathy Tomes, their spouses and five grandchildren. They include his daughter Alyssa Schneider (Andy), Chad Wylie (Nicole), the grandchildren, Rob Wilson, Jacob Wilson, Macy Wilson, Claire Wylie, and Laura Wylie. Lastly, he is survived by his “oldest son” and cousin Todd Miller.
Mike also leaves behind his brother, Paul Wylie Jr. (Michelle) and three nephews Chris, Shawn, and Nick.
His canine companions were dear to him over the years (Shelby, Apache, Katie), including his current puppy friend, Hope who truly protected and loved-on Mike as he battled cancer.
Mike started in law enforcement when he was seventeen years old. He began his career at the Cincinnati Police department, moving on to Clermont County Police Department and retiring from Amberly Village where he served as a policeman and firefighter. Upon retiring, Mike decided to finish his bachelor’s degree from the Union Institute. He shifted his career to higher education and served as Chief of Police at Mount Saint Joseph University and Cincinnati State. His last stop before retiring for good was at Ohio National where he served as Associate Director of Security and Facilities.
Mike was not one to ever sit still, in his spare time, he also taught Dive Rescue classes all over the country and served on the Task Force Once Dive Team in Loveland Symmes.
In 2004-05, he wanted to serve his country and decided to go to Iraq for seven months to help train the Iraq people to become police officers. He also served as Chief of East Baghdad among other positions while he was there.
Mike was a best friend, a loving father and husband, a son, and a brother. Mike was a person of integrity and honor. He was always positive, supportive, fun-loving, and worked hard to provide for his family. He was the kind of person you could rely on to go the extra mile to help a friend or family.

July 10, 2023 at 9:48 pmMike was a great man, a great leader, and a great friend. I missed seeing him at the college when he left for Ohio National, but I was happy for his accomplishment. He and Amy were very supportive during our rough patch after being displaced by a tornado, a rock of reason amidst a storm. He was a devoted friend, a selfless servant of others in his career, and always an encouraging smile and an uplifting believer that tomorrow may be the best day ever—and YOU BELIEVED HIM. Heartfelt condolences to Amy and his whole family, the world has truly lost a great man.

September 23, 2024 at 7:19 amMike was just a tremendous help to our dive team at Task Force One. I worked alongside Mike since 2008 and was just mesmerized with the amount of knowledge and forethought he provided during our training and call outs. The loss of Mike has and will be felt in our organization for years to come. I’m sorry to be posting so late, just didn’t see this post. RIP Mike!
