Mary Frances Curtis (nee Peaslack) passed away on January 11, 2019 at age 80. Mary was the beloved wife of Kent Curtis for fifty-three years. She graduated from Bellevue (KY) high school in 1956 and attended Eastern Kentucky University. Mary then earned baccalaureate degrees from the University of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky University.
Mary’s work life included positions with the Cincinnati Enquirer, Luntz Iron & Steel, US Department of Commerce Consumer Price Index, Newport (KY) High School, Salem Park Nursing Home, and teaching English as a Second Language (ESL)at the Inlingua School. The position Mary most cherished was as a Research Technician in the Department of Clinical Virology at the Christ Hospital (Cincinnati) and the University of Cincinnati Medical School.
Mary was the Editor of three publications; the Instructors Guide for The Art of Leadership (George Manning and Kent Curtis) published in 2003 by McGraw-Hill/Irwin; St. Andrew’s Centennial Cookbook, Ft. Thomas, KY (2010); and The (Fort Thomas, KY) Family Heritage Cookbook (1998) with Dottie Ivie.
One of Mary’s passions included playing bridge and the other was her Golden Retrievers Max, Scarlett, and Sonny and her Golden Doodle, Benny. Mary was an early personal computer enthusiast as a coordinator for Tri-State Online for a recipe list sharing and one for Golden Retriever owners. She was a member of the Azure Court Bridge Club of Cincinnati and the Bridge Club of Charleston, SC where she earned the rank of Junior Master. Mary’s community activities included membership in the Mt. Washington (Ohio) Junior Women’s Club. She loved her friends in Anderson Township, Northern Kentucky, and Shadow Moss in Charleston, SC.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents Arthur (Artie) and Marian Peaslack and her sister Joy and cousin Joanie Roth.
Mary’s three loving children are Lisa Joy (Rinehard) Henry (Kevin), Denise Elaine (Rinehard) Stefanizzi (John), and Craig Anthony Curtis (Lisa). Her fifteen dear grandchildren are Tara Hemmerle, Daniel Hemmerle, James and Meryl Hemmerle, and Andrew and Melisa Hemmerle; Alex and Pavla Schloemer, Erin (Schloemer) Downing, Sarah (Schloemer) and Matteo Donna, and Zach and Katie Schloemer; and Henry and Maddie Curtis. Her eight adoring great-grandchildren are Mattis, Isabella, and Emma Hemmerle (Andrew and Melissa); Iris (James and Meryl Hemmerle); Juliana, Eli, and Cedric (Erin Downing); and Riley (Zach and Katie Schloemer). Mary was the dear sister to Patty (Peaslack) Daily and Roland Peaslack and their wonderful children Melissa, Lynne, and Tom (Daily); and Jennie, Joy, and Gail (Peaslack).
The celebration of Mary’s life will be at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Ft. Thomas, KY, 11 am on Monday, February 11, 2019.
