Lois Ruth (Steinhour) Rice, 87, of Loveland, Ohio, passed
away with family present on Monday, February 13, 2012 under the loving care of
Hospice of Cincinnati at EastgateSprings Care Facility, Cincinnati, Ohio. Lois
was preceded in death by her father and mother, Valentine and Dessie O’Reed
Steinhour; and two beloved sons, David Chester and Michael Aaron. She is
survived by her loving daughters; Christy Rice-Barker, Nancy Reed (Gary), and
Robin Sullender (Frank); Five
grandchildren: Jimmy Maple (Nicki), Danny Maple, Kenny Hodgkins (Melissa),
Courtney Brandford (Johnny), and Rachel Barker; Seven great-grandchildren:
Cierra, Emma, Shyla, Joey, Johnny-O, Eli, and Victoria; Beloved and special niece:
Carol Nolan; and her wonderful dog: Jodi. Lois was born in Franklin, Ohio on
February 23, 1924. She graduated from high school in 1942 and pursuing her love
of nursing, graduated as Nurse Cadette in 1945 from Mercy Hospital of Nursing
in Hamilton, Ohio. She was assigned to a hospital in Frankfort, Kentucky;
married and moved to northern Ohio. Her career continued at Maumee Valley
Hospital, Toledo, Ohio. In 1970, she accepted an
important career opportunity in southern Ohio, at Fort Hamilton-Hughes Hospital.
She retired in 1988 as Assistant Supervisor of Nursing. Lois eventually moved
to northern Kentucky, volunteering her time at St. Luke Hospital, Fort Thomas,
Kentucky for a short period before becoming a volunteer in food services at
Silver Grove Schools, Kentucky. She acquired certification as a Teacher’s Aide
and began employment at Silver Grove Schools, caring for challenged students,
retiring for the second time in her career in 2004. Lois is very loved and will
be missed by all mentioned and many more. Visitation will be held at Fort
Hamilton Hospital, 2nd Floor Chapel, Sunday February 26, 2012 from
