With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John William Carney on February 17, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on February 10, 1954, John was a devoted husband, a loving family man, and a proud U.S. Navy veteran who served his country with honor and dedication.

John was the beloved husband of Allie Carney, with whom he shared 30 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. His warmth, kindness, and unwavering support made him a pillar of strength for his family and friends.

A graduate of Northern Kentucky University, John valued education and lifelong learning. He dedicated his career to the building supply industry and later worked in supply chain management, where his strong work ethic and leadership earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike.

In his free time, John enjoyed woodworking, creating beautiful and lasting pieces for his family and friends.

John is survived by his loving wife, Allie Carney; his sisters, Susan Carney Carney and Mary Lee (Dave) Thomas; his two stepchildren, Sherry (Robbie) McDonald and Temple (Tammie) Neace; his grandchildren, Erika Smith, Jordan Rawls, Taylor McDonald, Sarah Boulanger, and Jacob Neace; and his three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Derek Rawls.

He was also preceded in death by his mother, Marcelline Elizabeth, and his father, James Francis.

A funeral service will be held at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, 822 York St, Newport on Thursday February 20th from 10am until time of service at 12:00 noon, to celebrate John’s life and legacy. Burial, with military honors, will be held at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to any veterans organization in his memory.

John’s love, strength, and dedication to family and country will never be forgotten. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

    John always had a story to share, that prompted a belly-laugh from everyone at the service counter of the airport central warehouse. 💔

    I enjoyed working with John at the airport. He was one of the kindest people I have met. I could search for an hour for a part number, and John could figure it out in two minutes.
