The family of John R. Merkle is saddened to announce his death on July 4, 2024, at the age of 87. He was a proud and active member of St. Anthony of Padua Maronite Catholic Church for 40+ years. John was often called John “Miracle” because he could fix, repair, and build anything for the church and many of its parishioners. Ushering the 4pm Saturday afternoon liturgy was very important to him. He loved participating in parish activities like festivals, picnics, etc. His quiet, kind, and gentle manner with an added smile was shown to all.
John is survived by his wife: Julia; his children: Donna Sarky (John); Johnna Mullikin; Melissa Campton (Howard); John Merkle Jr. (Ronda); Joy Rovno (Steve); stepson: Robert Turpin (Rachel): his beloved siblings: Al (Pat); Robert; Roselyn Smith and many nieces and nephews. In addition, he was the proud grandfather to ten and great-grandfather to three. He was pre-deceased by his first wife Joan Elaine. A Mass and celebration of his life will occur at St. Anthonys on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 10 AM. Mass begins at 10:30am. A Meal of Mercy will be immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anthony of Padua Maronite Catholic Church, 2530 Victory Parkway, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45206.
