Karen Sanders, 09/27/1950 – 09/10/2024, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Clifford and Maude Baker. Mourning her are her daughters Kristin Moser (Mark), Kara Sanders (Heather), her brother, Danny Baker (Cyndi) and countless friends and family, including LaVerne Daniels, Tony (Kevin) Moore and Bobby Sanders. Her grandchildren, Laura, Molly and Brady Moser were the lights in her eyes and the joy in her heart; the love they have for their Bua is indescribable.
A graduate of Woodward High School, class of 1968, Karen always knew she wanted to be a nurse. A natural at caring for and comforting others, she volunteered as a candy striper at Good Samaritan Hospital as a teenager. She loved her time there but lacked the resources to go further and pursue nursing as a career. As a single mother in her late 20s, Karen learned of an accelerated nursing program from a neighbor. The 40 hour/week program, plus homework, made it impossible to have a job and she was often stretched thin while balancing motherhood, school, public transportation and surviving on very little money. She persevered and graduated at the age of 29. Karen worked as a nurse at the The Drake Center for 30 years.
Karen Sanders’ daughters established the annual Karen Sanders Nursing Scholarship at University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College in 2019 to honor their mother. They understand the dedication and fortitude it takes to raise a family on your own while going to school, and they hope this scholarship will continue to encourage and assist its recipient to realize their dreams of becoming a nurse.
The family humbly and gratefully accepts all donations to endow Karen’s scholarship at UCBA. To give, click the link below, choose “I want to support scholarships” and type in The Karen Sanders Nursing Scholarship.
Karen’s family hopes you can attend her celebration of life at the Highwood Lodge inside Withrow Nature Preserve in Anderson Township, OH. Drop by any time 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Friday, September 20. The family requests that guests wear colorful clothes to her celebration of life! Karen is happy now and would not want her loved ones to be sad.

September 13, 2024 at 7:30 pmMy heart is heavy at the loss of my dear friend. She was one of a kind and will be missed. by all who knew her. So many happy memories I have of her Halloween chili, Christmas cookies, peanut butter fudge, many picnics at Winton Woods with her and her girls, I know my life is richer for having known her. I last spoke with her in the last week of August when she returned my call so I wouldn’t worry about her as she had been in the hospital. RIP my dear friend, love to you and yours.

September 14, 2024 at 1:17 pmWe are put on this earth to make a difference, and Karen, you certainly did that!! Your deep love for your family, friends, and patients at Drake Hospital proved that over and over again. I’m sure Bruce was standing at Heaven’s Gate with outstretched arms, and a big grin on his face, to welcome you.
To Kristen and Kara…..you both were amazing and dedicated daughters to your mom. She loved you more than words could ever say….she was so proud of both of you. She loved her grandchildren to the fullest, and was very proud of their many accomplishments.
My heartfelt condolescences to all of you. Sending much love and big warm hugs.
