Dolores (Dolly) Karen Butler (nee Dillahunt) passed away on July 28, 2023, in her home in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was born on July 17, 1942, in Springfield, Ohio to the late George and Clarice Dillahunt. Dolly is a graduate of Springfield High School and attended both Ohio University and Wittenberg University. She married David James (Jim) Butler on May 9, 1966, in Boston, Massachusetts. They briefly lived in Boston and Springfield before settling in Columbus, Ohio. Before retirement, Dolly worked for Highlights for Children for 20 years. She had previously worked as an editor for Houghton Mifflin and Little Brown & Co. publishing houses in Boston. She volunteered with the Columbus City Schools and the American Heart Association, and she supported her husband’s efforts with Vietnam Veterans of America. In earlier years, she served as an organist for several churches in Springfield. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with friends and family, reading, going to movies and symphony concerts, attending events at the Columbus Museum of Art and Franklin Conservatory, and searching antique shops for Quimper pottery. Dolly is survived by her son, Andrew, her daughter-in-law, Paula, her grandson, Brian, and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
A grave-side service will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at 11:00am at Union Grove Cemetery in Canal Winchester. For those who wish to honor Dolly’s memory, the family invites contributions to the American Heart Association.
