December 4, 2019 at 7:18 pm“Til There Was You…I never knew there beat another heart in all this world so like my own…God broke the mold when He first gave you life – Bernice, You had a sweetness that is yours alone. I never once imagined it could be, that you and I, could meet on common ground and recognize we had a love that strengthens and endears. For in this world of numbered days we find we are not always given skies of blue. Someone to really care, this matters most, and this I had not known, ’til there was you ! The deepest condolence to all the families & friends.

January 19, 2021 at 3:04 amI just learned of Bernice’s passing today. I loved Bernice very much. We shared a lot of good laughs together, like the time Althea sent us to bury her bird that died. Althea was too busy working at the magazine to come with us. We went to a pet cemetary on the east side of Columbus where Althea has purchased a tiny burial plot and Althea insisted that we cry and say a prayer (and take pictures for proof). We giggled and did the best we could, tears from laughter is probably what we managed, but I remember Bernice gave it her best shot and did manage some tears. She was one of the sweetest people I have ever known. I don’t know what she died from but I hope it wasn’t painful. I only remember her with a smile on her face.
