Edward James Brennan Jr., 74, of Foley Alabama, passed away on March 6th 2016. Eddie was born to the late Edward James Sr. and Beatrice Louise ( Savage) Brennan on April 29th 1941 in West Orange, New Jersey. Eddie’s family moved to Atlanta, Georgia at a young age where they established long lasting family roots. While young, Eddie attended Northside High school where he was an “All American” athlete in football and also briefly held state records in track & field. Eddie’s athletic success sent him to Notre Dame on scholarship where he played briefly before finishing his eligibility at LSU. Eddie played football for LSU and, along with his team, went to the Orange Bowl in 1962.
After college, Eddie moved to Tampa, Florida and met Susan Campbell; whom he married in 1967. The couple relocated back to Atlanta for several years before bringing their young family to Cincinnati, Ohio to raise their children to adulthood in the Hyde Park community.
Eddie could light up the room with his laughter, outrageous stories, and his undeniable charm. While Eddie spent a great deal of his free time enjoying the outdoors as an avid hunter and fisherman, he was also known for his life-long passion for football. While in Cincinnati, he assisted his friend, Bill Thies, as football coaches for their young sons and their friends in the community. Many of these young athletes went on to play football at the collegiate level and often looked back at those early years as critical to their athletic success. Eddie never grew tired of his weekend football games (Geaux Tigers!) and was always available for a conversation on SEC domination with any unsuspecting Big 10 or Pac 10 college fan.
Eddie is survived by his three children Ed ( Jennifer), Pat ( Jody), and Katie ( Brad) and 6 grandchildren, Sarah, Emily, Maggie, Aidan, Charlotte, and Ethan. Eddie had 3 sisters, Betty Lou Douglas who passed away in July 2015, Mary Bearden and Ginny Phillips all of Atlanta, Georgia. Eddie lived for every moment with his children, grandchildren, and seven nieces and nephews.
Eddie spent his last few days in Cincinnati to be with his children at the end of life. Eddie’s wishes were to be cremated and for his children to visit the Abbey of Gethsemani to hold a private mass.
The family would like to send out our heartfelt appreciation to Heartland Hospice, Ashley Dobbs from South Baldwin Medical Center, and his friend Alena from Foley Alabama.
