RYAN
J. Patrick, 73, peacefully entered into eternal rest on March 31, 2014 at Pleasant Run Farm – his home in New Richmond, Ohio. Loving husband of Barbara, the love of his life and beloved father of J. Michael, McNeil T, J. Matthew and Mark M. Ryan, step-father of Sarah Peterson, and devoted grandfather of Stephanie, Mikaela, William, Thor, McKenzie, Madison, Jane, Anne, Jake, Mark and step-grandfather of Benjamin and Chole. He is also survived by his siblings Nancy Bury, Janie Ryan, Mike, Kevin (Julie) and Dennis (Marjie) Ryan and many nieces and nephews.
He was an alumnus of St. Xavier High School [Louisville], the University of Kentucky and the University of Southern California [Los Angeles]. He and his spouse were active members of St. Timothy Episcopal Church [Cincinnati] where the funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 12 at 4:00 pm. Burial rites will be at the church’s columbarium during the service with appetizers to follow the service in the Parish Hall.
In his professional life he served as president & CEO of Skystone Partners [formerly Staley/Robeson/Ryan/St. Lawrence, Inc.] The firm provides fundraising and management consulting services to America’s leading nonprofit organizations throughout the country. He was recognized as a distinguished expert, regularly writing and speaking to audiences throughout the United States and around the world. He took particular satisfaction in consulting with and helping Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, his college home and his early career focus. Active in the 30,000 member Association of Fundraising Professionals [AFP] he helped form and then chaired the Association’s Cincinnati chapter. Subsequently, he was elected as the national chair of the AFP Foundation. In 2009, he was honored to be elected as only the ninth AFP member ever to be so recognized. As he concluded serving the AFP as America’s delegate to the World Fundraising Council [WFC] he was then tapped by the WFC Board to serve as its chair, a position he held for six years.
Friends and family are cordially invited to attend and to share their memories of J. Patrick Ryan, a wonderful man ,who was dedicated to living each day as a true philanthropist – one who lived out the belief that “philanthropy lies at the heart of human greatness.”
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial gifts be made to The Greater Cincinnati Foundation or St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church.
