John A, 87 of Ft Thomas passed away May 6 at Highland Springs. His first wife
Helen Leistner of 46 years precedes him in death. He is also preceded in death
by his mother Mary Voss, his brothers Charles Thomas (Tom) and Clarence Jerome
(Pete) Voss, sister Mary Lou Wilson and step daughter Pam Meese. John is
survived by his wife Betty, sons John A (Sue) Leistner, Jr and Michael Wayne
(Cyndi) Leistner, daughter Terry Lynn (Michael) Turner, grandchildren Melanie
(Jack) Isaacs, Angela, Jonathan and Emily Leistner, Michaela and Wesley Turner,
Keyshawn Bell and step-children Candy Pentz, Robert (Heather) Steele, Wendy
Steele and step son-in-law Dale Meese. John went to St. Anthony Elementary
School and was a graduate of Dixie Heights High School class of 1950. He served
11 years total in the United States Army, two of them in active duty and nine of
them in the reserves. When he left the service he had the rank of Sergeant 1st
class. He was a delivery driver for Sears Roebuck for 29 years and for S&S
Delivery for 8 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church Newport where he
was ordained a deacon. He was also a Kentucky Colonel, life member of the VFW
and a member of the American Legion Post 11. John loved fishing and traveled all
over the United States and Canada to fish. A visitation will be held Thurs, May
11 from 4pm until 8pm at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Services will be
held at 10am on Fri, May 12 at the funeral home. Burial with military honors and
a 21 gun salute will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations
can be made to First Baptist Church 801 York Street Newport, Kentucky or Hospice
of the Bluegrass.

A visitation will be held Thurs, May 11 from 4pm until 8pm at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Services will be held at 10am on Fri, May 12 at the funeral home.



Burial with military honors and a 21 gun salute will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
