Harris L. Behlert November 13, 1925 - June 5, 2017

Harris L. Behlert, age 91, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, June 5, 2017, surrounded by his son and two daughters.

Loving husband of the late Carole (Benson) Behlert. Father of Mark (Margaret) Behlert, Jennifer Long and Elizabeth Jane Behlert. Grandfather of Sarah (Garret) Swartzentruber, Amy (Zachary) Grant, Katie (Brent) Kruithof, Joy Behlert and Jonah Long. Great-grandfather of Jack, Noah, Ella, Giorgio, Decker, Nickolas and Hannah. Stepfather of Grant (Sarah) Benson and Lori (Tim) Adams. Step-grandfather of Nick, Leigh Ann, Kevin, Alex and Andrew.

Harris was born on November 13, 1925 to Leonard and Bessie (Harris) Behlert in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the brother of Thomas and June. He grew up in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania, where his family life centered around the General Church of the New Jerusalem. He attended The Academy of the New Church where he played on the high school baseball, football, basketball and track teams. He graduated a semester early in 1942 and enlisted in the Army. He served in Logistics during World War II in Germany. Following the war, he received a Bachelor’s degree in Art from Michigan State University.

He spent most of his career in the Art Department and National Sales Accounts Division of Mead Containers in Cincinnati, Ohio.

He was a member of Glendale New Church for 57 years, where he served many years as the church’s Treasurer. He was instrumental in the expansion of the church building.

He was a member of the Maketewah Country Club for 52 years. He and his wife Carole enjoyed golfing. They also were Florida snowbirds and had many friends at the Navarre Beach Regency.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 10 at 1:00 pm at Glendale New Church, 845 Congress Ave., Glendale, Ohio 45246.
